Updates on our 2021-2022 Season
As the summer draws to a close, we’re looking towards our 2021-2022 season and the changes and opportunities it will bring. We are sad to announce that NPO will not be returning to our long-time home at the First Baptist Church in Newton this season due to building issues. However, this doesn’t change our continuous mission of bringing Music for All to the Newton community and beyond. Instead, we will be performing in two interesting and wonderful venues during the coming season. We are finalizing the details at the moment and will share the complete schedule with you in less than 2 weeks. Never fear – New Phil, one of Boston’s best regional orchestras, will survive and thrive! We are so excited about these new partnerships, which have given us the ability to once again bring music to our community.
On that note, New Phil is excited to announce our orchestra auditions for our 2021-2022 season! Join our fully vaccinated ensemble for our triumphant return to in-person, indoor performances in over a year. The rich repertoire for brass including Brahms, Tchaikovsky, and Williams programmed this season will make for wonderful music-making! We will hold our orchestra auditions September 10th – 12th, by appointment. Positions are available for all brass instruments (including co-principal positions), as well as substitute positions for all strings and winds. As always, the programs for the season will include some great masterworks as well as some new-to-us-all pieces. Our first soloist of the season, for our program on October 30/31, we are excited to announce, will be prize-winning young Newton violinist, Keila Wakao. In regard to COVID, I am happy to share that our entire orchestra and staff are fully vaccinated. For our audience, we will be working with reduced audience capacity, providing socially distant seating, requiring the audience to wear masks, and in light of new information on the Delta variant, we have made the decision to require all audience members to present proof of vaccination upon entry. We will share more details on this as we get closer to concert time and due to the ever-changing nature of the pandemic, we plan to re-evaluate our approach before each concert weekend. In the meantime please stay safe!
Though the last year and a half caused a shift in the status quo and placed challenges in our path, we are building our new plans for the future piece by piece, like a carefully crafted mosaic. We hope you’ll stick with us as we unveil the full picture. We’ll be back in touch soon and look forward to sharing the world of great music with you soon!
